Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer coach for our Youth Recreational Soccer League. No sports organization is able to offer their programs without the continued committment of parents and other community members to coach these players. We cannot say THANK YOU enough, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

There are numerous benefits to becoming a volunteer coach. As a coach, you are helping develop soccer players and teaching children important life skills. All of us can remember former coaches/mentors and know the influence that people like that have on the lives of youth. Listed below are some of the major benefits for becoming a Coach with Basin United Soccer Club.

  1. Mentor and guide local youth
  2. Access to online and physical coaching resources
  3. Access to Professional Coaching Courses to improve skills and become a better coach
  4. Set your own practice schedule!

While we do not expect our Recreation Coaches to have experience, we do have several requirements to ensure we are putting the best person possible on the field. Basically, we require all coaches to complete a thorough Background Check, as well as complete AND pass Annual Concussion Awareness Training. These requirements are in place to protect our players and make sure our coaches are SAFE, and able to respond appropriately in case of a concussion. Below we have listed each requirement and how to go about completing the requirement.

All checks are conducted through the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA). The checks are completed ONLINE on their secure system. You will be required to create an account, so make sure you write down your username and password. You will use the same account for future seasons. There is no fee as Basin United pays for the service through our Membership Dues to OYSA.

In 2013, the State of Oregon passed a law requiring ALL coaches, referees, and administrators of Youth Sports to complete Annual Concussion Awareness Training. Basin United utilizes the training course provided by the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) online course. This course is identical to the course provided by the CDC; however, NFHS will log your certificate completion and allow organizations to verify your information. You will be required to create a FREE account, so again make sure you save your username and password.

In June 2018, a new Federal legislation imposed a duty on every adult involved with soccer affiliated with the US Soccer Federation. Every adult was made a mandatory reporter of observed or suspected child abuse per federal law.

US Soccer in their Policy 212-3, has now mandated the SafeSport Education to ensure all administrators have the proper training to protect all forms of abuse that can occur in sports. The mandated will be mandatory for the 2019/20 season.

  • All Coaches and Team Managers must take the (3) SafeSport Modules. After completion of the modules, a master certificate is generated and must be uploaded to your Affinity Sports Administrator account.
  • All 3 modules must be completed. You will receive a master certificate at the end of completing the third module. Please provide a copy of your certificate to Basin United via email or hard copy.
  • You will be asked to enter an organization (U.S. Soccer) and access code when making your SafeSport account. Please  CONTACT US for the access code.

We know how difficult it is for new coaches to plan and run a proper training session. We want to make sure our players, your children, are receiving the BEST coaching possible. As part of a new Club initiative, we are offering to reimburse any of our coaches who wants to obtain their Grassroots Coaching License. This License is designed for the Entry-Level Recreation Soccer Coach and gives you a beginners look on how to coach a team. The course is offered COMPLETELY ONLINE!

If you are interested, please go to  Once you complete the course, please bring us a copy of your receipt and Certificate of Completion and we will issue a credit on your account for the amount the course.

Again, this is not a REQUIREMENT, but we highly recommended that Recreation Coaches obtain this license.
